Legislative Update
Health care reform – Little progress was made last week in coming to an agreement on how to proceed with health care reform. Although Democrats are still optimistic that they will get a health reform bill passed, it is not likely to happen any time soon. The President has scheduled a bipartisan health care summit for Feb. 25 that will be televised.
Jobs – Release of the jobs bill has been delayed in hopes of drafting a bill that will garner sufficient Republican support for passage. Action is not likely until later in the week. The President is scheduled to meet with bipartisan leaders of the House and Senate today (Feb. 9) to discuss working together on a strategy to spur economic growth and increase jobs.
Upcoming schedule – The House and Senate will not be in session Feb. 15 – 21 (President's Day recess).
