Health Care Reform – Discussions to reconcile the House and Senate bills continue behind closed doors. Some form of health care reform seems assured, and we're still expecting that it's going to look more like the Senate bill than the House version. Democratic leaders and caucus members discussed concerns about the excise tax on "Cadillac" health plans. It's possible that this provision may be modified and supplemented (or replaced) by one of the House pay-fors, such as the tax on high-income earners. Nancy Pelosi has indicated that the House does not plan to just pass the Senate bill as is Congress doesn't officially come back in session until
Jan. 20 but once a deal is reached, we expect the bill will move swiftly through the House and Senate and on to the President for signature.
Estate Tax – A one-year extension of 2009 estate tax law is still likely.
Extenders – We still expect this will be passed in early 2010.
Technical Corrections – We will be continuing to watch this.
Alternative Minimum Tax – We expect activity on this later in the year.
Tax Reform – We expect activity on this later this year and for years to come.
